Apostolic Tabernacle

This past weekend I was once again a guest soloist for the Sunday Singsation at Apostolic Tabernacle in Merced, California. This church is pastored by my dear friends, Rev. Sam and Shirley Emory. You can visit their church website at www.upcmerced.org. Their music is under the direction of Pastor Mark Yandris who is one of the most phenomenal musicians I have ever known. He is a highly sought after organist/keyboardist especially amongst artists who perform Black gospel music. Mark eats, sleeps, drinks, music. It consumes his life! One of the things I so admire about him, is his willingness to share his talents. He encourages young people to develop musical talents and will push them out of their comfort zone to perform. This quickly causes them to perfect their skills. At the annual Sunday Singsation, there is always some young artists spotlighted who, far from perfect, are given the opportunity to perform under pressure. The concert was well over two hours but I wanted to share some of the highlights. If you will click on the below link, it will bring up the video of the concert. You can fast forward if you don't have time for all the selections. At approximately 20 minutes into the concert, Miss Natilee Abalos plays a violin solo accompanied by her mother. She was recently accepted into the Modesto Youth Symphony and she is also a member of WAY Choir. If you are curious about my singing, I am at 36 minutes. The youth sign team performed a number at 1 hour and 42 minutes. At 1 hour and 46 minutes, James Williams sings. I first met James about 10 years ago when we were both invited to work on a project together. He and his sister, Olivia, are dynamic singers. I hadn't seen James for a few years and it was great to visit with him. This year, Mark had not planned for the mass choir to sing. That was met with strong opposition! :) It just "ain't right" to be at Apostolic Tabernacle and not hear the mass choir! So, at the conclusion, Mark put the choir on the spot and had them come to the stage. I think that was 1 hour and 58 minutes. Then, catching James and I off guard, he asked us to return to the stage to join the choir for the chorus of "Goin' Up Yonder" (2 hrs. 22 min.) which was a fun finale. Saxophonist and recording artist Louis Lenzi was amongst the band adding the "whipped cream and cherry."

Now I have to add what was my favorite part of the entire night. At 1 hour, 14 minutes, the Men's Ensemble sang. They were full of energy and spirit and gave a rousing performance of "All My Help Comes From The Lord." I have to admit, I have been physically and mentally exhausted and wasn't even sure if I should accept the invitation to minister in song but felt compelled in my spirit. Apostolic Tabernacle thought I had come to minister to them but, what they didn't know, they ministered to me. I felt the Lord speak to me as the men sang, "...all of my help, comes from the Lord......thank you, Lord, I thank you, Lord..." Tears welled in my eyes and I lifted my hands and began to thank God for giving me the strength I need. The past few weeks have been stressful, but ALL my help does come from the Lord and I thank Him. Here is the link to the concert.
Singsation Sunday Concert
P.S. A very elder lady was among the worshippers and, if you watch the men sing, you might catch a glimpse of her dancing in the front of the church. She had on a gorgeous metallic gold hat that she danced right off her head. It was so encouraging to see elder saints still "ripping the carpet" in praise to God. In reference to the recent quote I posted, I thought about this elder lady and just imagine she "loves deeply" because she is really "young."

Letter from WNOP Director

World Network of Prayer
September 26, 2008

Dear Friend and Prayer Partner:

I am sending you information I received in a letter from Pastor Ken Wilde, head of the National Center in Washington, DC. He is onsite with a prayer team as you receive this letter. Yesterday he met with a Senator who is on the Senate Banking Committee. That senior Senator proceeded to inform him of the details of the crisis that we are now in and its ramifications. He informed us that last Thursday we were hours away from a total collapse in our economy! Ken Wilde goes on to say: It was barely averted by taking some steps to bolster the mutual fund accounts. This Senator has been in coordination with his committee and with the Treasury Secretary, the Federal Reserve President, and with the President in attempting to come up with a plan that will bring our economy back to solvency. This is a serious and major concern because it affects all of us. I think that this is no less a threat than the attack by terrorists on September 11, 2001. Once again it is time for Christians and Americans to humble themselves and pray to the one true God that we would hear from heaven and He would heal our land. I felt the Lord speak to me that it is time to call for Sacred Assemblies to be held across the nation and that we in concerted effort cry out to God in humility and repentance to heal our land. We may not be a nation that is known for setting up idols of wood or stone, but perhaps, we as a nation have been guilty of worshipping the idol of materialism and greed. I do know this, if we repent, God will relent! Perhaps we need to heed these words spoken by Benjamin Franklin during Constitutional Convention: "I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth-that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the Ground without his Notice, is it probable that an Empire can rise without his Aid?" We are now at a moment in time at which we, and our leaders, must devote ourselves to a time of prayer and repentance and acknowledgment that we surely cannot survive unless God himself intervenes.

With the multiple crises facing our nation it appears that a "Perfect Storm" of spiritual darkness is brewing in the atmosphere of our country. If you take even a brief look at the various events in today's headlines you begin to see that we are on the brink of a "perfect storm" of darkness. The recent terrible hurricanes earlier this fall that ravaged the gulf coast give us a glimpse in the natural of the raw destructive power of storms. It was declared on many newscasts by reporters and governmental officials that our gulf coast infrastructure cannot take much more of this! We must gather our spiritual meteorologists, reporters, aid workers, appointed officials, and financial resources and prepare to push back, offer aid, and strengthen the spiritual infrastructure to withstand the chaos that threatens to swirl around us. One glance at today's headlines gives us a glimpse at our national stormy spiritual weather forecast. Probably foremost on our minds is the economic storm that threatens to engulf us!

This is not a Republican storm, nor a Democratic storm! This is an American storm!

Regardless of where you stand politically, I am certain of where you stand spiritually! America has been the largest mission sending, humanitarian providing nation that has ever existed! Do you think that the Kingdom of Darkness will sit idly by and not try to hinder? If evil can stop us from continuing to send missionaries, and stand for freedom and justice, then all the good that our nation has done spiritually and economically for the past 200 hundred years ceases! If Satan can deplete our resources, perhaps he feels he can diminish our destiny! When our president states that "Our entire economy is in danger" that brings a dark cloud over missions financing and evangelism. THERE IS MORE AT STAKE THAN JUST THE ECONOMY! What does it mean when the cumulative headlines scream at us and our enemies pronounce our end?! The ardent Muslim president of Iran, Ahmadinejad, declared a few days ago at a United Nations speech right here in our nation that allows the "freedom of speech" (while Christians are persecuted for speaking up for Jesus in his nation!), that the 'American empire is reaching the end of the road'! I pray that his bitter words not be fulfilled! The European Union warns us that Iran is nearing the ability to arm a nuclear weapon. North Korea removed the seals from its nuclear plant and chased out the inspectors stating that it was restarting its atomic program. Russia arrived with its Navy in Venezuela for exercises today! I am not trying to be political! I am trying to be practical! You have never heard me speak like this, but please don't tune me out! I am not trying to become an "Endtimes Fanatic"! These are all real headlines! This appears to be a Satanic "Perfect Storm" of events! It's not about whether America has always done everything right, we haven't. It's time to repent for our nation, and the spirit of greed and pride that seems to have brought us to the brink of calamity! There is no doubt that we are in perilous times. There is more at stake than your mortgage or retirement! There are eternal consequences to this moment in history! During these difficult times I have been comforted with a scripture out of Psalms: "I would have been without hope if I had not believed that I would see the lovingkindness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord. Be strong. Let your heart be strong. Yes, wait for the Lord". (Psalm 27:13-14, NLV) Today, I (Pastor Ken Wilde), with the National Prayer Center is meeting with more Senators and Congressmen. Not to politic, but to pray! Not to decide who was right and who was wrong, but to ask for God's mercy. Would you please pray that God will give them favor? And that the leaders that they meet with would have the courage to call for a time of prayer and repentance. That they would have the wisdom of Solomon and that many would join them in humility before God. He is the only one that can help in times like these. These are critical times-the time to pray is now. Please join us in prayer and invite your friends and church to a season of prayer until we see breakthrough for our nation. This is about more than banks, and stock markets, this is about darkness against light. The only answer is to seek God and His wisdom.

Here are some Prayer Points:
1. Pray for a spirit of humility and repentance among our leaders.
2. Pray for an answer to this economic crisis.
3. Pray for favor for Pastor Ken Wilde and others when meeting with Congressional leaders.
4. Pray that Congressional leaders would heed the call for prayer at this moment.
5. Pray that Christians would understand the signs of the times activate prayer at a new level.
6. Pray for wisdom for our President, Congressional Leaders, and Financial Leaders.
7. Pray that God would hear our prayers and heal our land as we humble ourselves in repentance before Him.

Please feel free to forward this to anyone you feel would benefit from it and would be interested in praying.

Thank you for your concern and prayers.

ARE YOU DEMOCRAT, REPUBLICAN OR REDNECK?

Here is a little test that will help you decide.
DISCLAIMER: This is just a joke. Please don't take seriously.
You're walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small children. Suddenly, a terrorist with a huge knife comes around the corner, locks eyes with you, screams obscenities, raises the knife, and charges at you. You are carrying a Glock cal 40, and you are an expert shot. You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family.
What do you do?

Democrat's Answer: Well, that's not enough information to answer the question!
Does the man look poor! Or oppressed? Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack? Could we run away? What does my wife think? What about the kids? Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out of his hand? What does the law say about this situation? Does the Glock have appropriate safety built into it? Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway, and what kind of message does this send to society and to my children? Is it possible he'd be happy with just killing me? Does he definitely want to kill me, or would he be content just to wound me? If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me? Should I call 9-1-1 ? Why is this street so deserted? We need to raise taxes, have a paint and weed day and make this a happier, healthier street that would discourage such behavior. This is all so confusing! I need to discuss with some friends over a latte and try to come to a consensus.

Republican's Answer: BANG!

Redneck's Answer: BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! Click....(sounds of reloading)BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! click. Daughter: 'Nice grouping, Daddy! Were those the Winchester Silver Tips or Hollow Points?'
Son: 'You got him, Pop! Can I shoot the next one?'
Wife: 'You are not taking that to the taxidermist!

Current Events In My World

Well, where do I start?! First, I want to thank all of you for your prayers, thoughts, and kind words during the recent ordeal with my mother. Although she is improving, we still stay with her 24/7. She is now able to raise herself up from her bed using her left arm and can get up and down from her rocking chair. This past Friday, she had an X-Ray on her forearm because there was a suspicion the radius or ulner may also be broken. Thankfully, the bones are not broke but there is one bone that has a small separation from the wrist. Doctor thinks it will be alright and has started some small exercise to improve movement and strength. Considering the severity of her injuries, she is doing remarkably well. Now, we need to schedule a dental appointment because she thinks a tooth is cracked from the fall. I think she can handle a dental appointment much easier than the surgery and trauma she has been through. :)

On another note, freeWAY has been quite busy. The first weekend of September, they were in Woodland for the 5th pastoral anniversary of Nik and Summer Schexnayder and the next day had a concert in Hollister, California at The Pentecostal Church pastored by Nathan and Ronda Hurst. The second weekend they performed at Six Flags Magic Mountain for the annual Praise On The Mountain concert then had concerts the next day in Exeter, California with Pastor and Sis. Phillips and Pastor and Sis. Demyan, and the evening concert was at our church. This weekend, they sang at the SoCal District Men's Conference Friday and Saturday in El Monte, California. Sunday was a busy day singing in San Diego at three services for The Anchor pastored by Jim and Joanie Larson. They were invited to sing in the Philippines at a crusade which is currently in the planning stages. They are estimating the crowd to be around 200,000. Rev. Gordan Mallory spoke a word of prophesy over the boys and said thousands will be saved when they minister. I am so proud of these boys. Yes, I know they are "men" but I still call them boys. They are my boys (yes, I claim them all even though I only birthed one of them) and I am proud of 'em.

Letters to Washington Post from Attorney David Bernard and Dr. N. Wilson

Dear Washington Post,

As a Pentecostal pastor, theologian and educator, I am disappointed by Pat Oliphant’s recent cartoon that ridicules Pentecostal beliefs and practices and portrays God in a way that is blasphemous to Pentecostals as well as many other Christians. Under the First Amendment, you have a right to publish such a cartoon. Nevertheless, it displays ignorance of Pentecostal beliefs, and it expresses prejudice against Pentecostals because of their religious identity. It is a clear example of bigotry. Although you likewise have a constitutional right to publish a racist cartoon or a cartoon ridiculing Muslims, I do not think you would do so. To be consistent with your own standards, you should apologize.

Sincerely,
David K. Bernard

Letter to the Editor
The Washington Post
1150 15th Street
N.W.Washington, DC 20071

Dear Editor:

I am writing in regards to your recent cartoon lampooning Pentecostals.First, I am somewhat shocked at the paucity of judgment in running such a demeaning piece (not to mention the awful artwork). The crassness and lack of discretion shown in your cartoon reveals a surprising narrowness and ignorance of world realities by both the cartoonist and those who approved it. When I compare such with the intellectual perspicacity, the enduring utilitarian beauty, and the unparalleled literary skill of the writers of the New Testament (all of which were Pentecostal, Acts 1:8, 2:1-4) your newspaper comes out a sad and very distant second. (An example of such beauty is I Corinthians 13. Yes, it is written by a Pentecostal preacher and author).Further, it is evident that someone at the Post may not know that 16% of the world’s population is Pentecostal (not just “Christian” but “Pentecostal Christians”). This is approximately 500 million people worldwide. Further, this number is expected to continue its exponential growth for decades to come. So impacting is this phenomenon that, several years ago, Time magazine estimated it may be one of the most impacting events in the last one thousand years. The liberating power of Pentecostalism also has a direct impact on the political climate of the world. For example, China is being revolutionized from within by conversions to Christianity, much of which is Pentecostal. This emphasis on the value of the individual versus the state is literally readjusting the philosophical underpinnings of the world’s largest nation. In the intellectual and spiritual Hall of Greats, Jesus I know. Paul I know, but I gently ask, who are you?

Respectfully,
Nathaniel J. Wilson, Ed.D

Washington Post Discriminates

Here's proof the Washington Post will defend Muslims over Christians. In August of 2007, The Washington Post refused to run a comic that mocked radical Islam but they gladly ran a cartoon this month that mocked Christians. The cartoon mocking Christians had nothing to do with the political season and everything to do with our freedom of religion. This type of discrimination to Christians must cease. Below is the link where you can see the cartoon they refused to run last year for fear of offending the Muslim population. Why didn't they refuse to run the cartoon that offended Christians?

WARNING: You Might Need Kleenex

Where did America get off the moral path??? Minor girls can now have a school counselor take them to have abortions (which eliminates criminal evidence) without their parents being notified yet they need parent permission to be issued Tylenol by the school nurse. (Don't even think about arguing the point of criminal evidence. It is a CRIME for anyone to have sex with a minor.) Seeing videos such as the one below, nauseates me. America needs to get on her knees and beg forgiveness and mercy. Not just for Obama but for the medical staff that willingly partakes in murder.

UPCI General Secretary Responds

Below, I have pasted a letter and a link for your review.

http://theapostolicreport.wordpress.com/2008/09/12/washington-post-cartoon-makes-fun-of-speaking-in-tongues/

Dear Sir:

I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw the long-denied political bias of the editorial board of the Washington Post confirmed by the highly offensive cartoon by Pat Oliphant published on September 9th. I was shocked to discover the board also holds a religious prejudice as well. To single out those of us who are Pentecostal and revere as well as practice the Scriptural experience of speaking in tongues in such a calculatedly offensive way is disgusting. That it was published by a leading U. S. newspaper is beyond belief. Quite obviously the board’s phobia of Governor Palin has caused it to lose its senses as well as its decency. To attack her on the basis of her political positions is certainly within your right, but to attack and ridicule her solely on the basis of her faith, a faith that is practiced by a significant number of Americans is indefensible!
A response by the millions of Pentecostals both in their future choice of reading material as well as at the polls can be expected from this unprovoked attack on a belief than spans many denominations of Christianity.
If such a deliberate disregard of the sincerely held beliefs of a significant segment of our population is fair game in the pursuit of a political agenda, how can the already tattered reputation of the traditional press in our country be rehabilitated? Your abrogation of your responsibility to respect and exhibit at least a minimum sensitivity toward other’s beliefs relegates the fabled Washington Post to the sorry company of yellow journalism rags of the past.
I urge the editorial board to issue an immediate apology to the millions offended by this silly and disgusting cartoon.

Sincerely,

Jerry Jones
General Secretary
United Pentecostal Church International

Oh, No They Didn't!!!

I received the below message in an e-mail. When I visited the Washington Post link, I found the cartoon to be offensive. Before you jump to conclusions, let me preface this by saying I don't think this has anything to do with the political season but everything to do with my freedom of religion being mocked. Even though I do not share the same beliefs as Sarah Palin, I don't think her choice of religion should be attacked. If they will attack her choice of spirituality, mine will be next. I did write an e-mail to the Washington Post and expressed my displeasure in allowing this offensive cartoon to run. If you find this cartoon to "rub your fur the wrong way," feel free to copy and paste this to your blog and e-mail Washington Post stating your complaint.

The Washington Post ran this cartoon by artist Pat Oliphant dated, 9-09-08. It apparently ran in today's paper, 9-10-08.

http://wpcomics.washingtonpost.com/client/wpc/po/2008/09/09/

I encourage you, if you find this to be as appalling as I do, to let the Post know how you feel about it. Regardless of your political or religious leanings, the gall of putting a curse word in the mouth of God is borderline blasphemous, in my opinion.

Pismo Beach, California

Seems like I have been talking much about tradition and here's some more. When we visit Pismo Beach we always eat clam chowder and fish and chips at Splash Cafe then walk down to the pier. Bryn and Blake love to walk all the way to the end of the pier. Along the way, they run, holler, and chase seagulls. Are there things you traditionally do when you visit certain cities?

News Update

EDIT: (I started writing this blog August 28 before my mom's fall. Since the following blog, Josh and Candace have ministered to our congregation again. Josh's ministry is refreshing and Brian enjoyed the break.) 08.28.08 - This has been a busy and fun week-end. Josh Tredway was a guest singer/speaker at our church last Sunday, Wednesday, and returned for today's services. He is married to Candace Monks and they have a darling, newborn, red-headed daughter named Chloe. Josh connected well with our church and we have had numerous miracles this past week. Thank you, Josh and Candace, for taking time to minister to Apostolic Gospel Church of Delano. For more pics, visit their blog at: http://www.tredwaytales.blogspot.com/

Yesterday (Sept. 7), freeWAY was in concert at Ronda's (my fellow blogger) church. Ronda was a great sport when she was chosen to be on stage with the quartet for a humorous moment. Following the concert, Ronda hosted freeWAY in her home with a delicious meal of roast and gravy with all the trimmings which included homemade straight-from-the-oven hot peach cobbler a la mode. Thank you, The Pentecostal Church of Hollister and Pastor and Sis. Hurst for your kind and generous hospitality.

Today I went to my mom's to relieve my sister. Within an hour, I received a call from the school asking me to pick up Bryn because she was sick. Bryce came to watch mom while I now tend to Bryn. The drama in the Allard house never ends.

She's Back Home

The hospital staff requested transport to bring two wheelchairs to my mom's room for her release. One wheelchair for her and the other to transport a large laundry basket full of flower arrangements and balloon bouquets. After eight days in hospital, mom rode to the car in style wearing a hospital gown. LOL We can't get anything else on her right now. After the 40 minute ride home, she was in pain and needed some relief but was sick soon after taking the medications. I felt so bad for her. Finally, she calmed down and rested. She is doing surprisingly well getting up and down. Our nanny, Joy, has been such a huge help and blessing. She spent every night in hospital with my mom and came to mom's house last evening to give my sister and I some relief. My sister will spend the night at mom's house and I will return later this morning to relieve my sister. My mom hates "depending" on us but I assured her we are working diligently to get her independence back. Thanks once again for your many prayers, cards, flowers, balloons, phone calls, visits, care and concern. I love you all.

Report About My Mom

The morning was hectic with one last brain scan before Mom could be taken to surgery and then, due to a cancellation of another patient, the surgery was sooner than we had been told. It was a rush, rush, rush morning. We met the anesthesiologist and he told us because of the length of the surgery and mom's age, she could very likely be on a ventilator and taken to ICU following the operation. Of course, mom was scared but this news further enhanced her fright. The surgeon told us this was going to be a difficult operation but he would take good care of her. After the nerve wracking wait, the doctor came and told us she had maintained her vital signs throughout the operation and he felt the procedure and gone well even though the "ball" looked like it had exploded. They put a steel rod in her arm and a steel ball in the shoulder. After an hour and half in recovery, she was returned to her room but was very combative due to effects of the medication. She wanted to "go to the living room" and kept pulling at everything. We had a few hours of battling as we tried to keep her from pulling out the i.v., tearing off the bandages, yanking the oxygen tube, etc. Finally, the effects began to subside and the pain set in. They gave her Morphine then Vicodin, then more Morphine. She finally began to settle down and my sister and I decided we would go home. Our nanny has been staying the nights with mom and she called a half hour after we left and said mom was snoring. It was a rough day but the prayers of you and many others gave us the strength to get through this day. Healing is in God's hands and I feel confident we are on the road to recovery.
Once again, thanks for your comments, prayers, love and support.

Today...

...is surgery for my mom. She is very scared because she knows the risks involved and they are even greater because of her age. Thank you for your prayers. It will probably be late tonight before I can post an update to her condition.

With God, all things are possible.

My Guy, Talkin' 'Bout My Guy

Happy Birthday, Brian!
He's the love of my life, the daddy of my children, pastor of a fine church, trained/degree in pyschology, chaplain for the Kern County Sheriff Department, substitute elementary school teacher, former volunteer fireman, member of ICISF (International Critical Incident Stress Foundation), candidate for the Delano Union Elementary School District Board, fluently speaks three languages and gets by in several others, serves on the Western District Camp Meeting Committee, support pastor of WAY Choir, manager of freeWAY, Bryce Allard Music and Jana Allard Music, excellent cook (some specialties are: Chicken Adobo, Red Velvet Cake, Benihana Hibachi Chicken and Rice with fresh ginger sauce...), and will never say "No," to anyone asking for help. He definitely deserves a day off but very rarely takes one. Somewhere in the middle of all his work, he finds time for me, Bryce, Blake, and Bryn. I love this man and wish him a most happy birthday.
