House Update

Time for a house update. Believe it or not, the repair work has not even started. After the drying process, it took several days for the adjuster to come. This adjuster was only submitting measurements and extent of damage. When the official adjuster received this work, he began calculating pricing. A week ago Friday, we finally received the official estimate of damage. When it is all said and done, our insurance will have put out nearly $50,000 (which includes ServiceMaster, hotel, and other misc. charges above the actual repairs). After receiving the official estimate, it was our duty to bring a contractor in and see if they can complete the repairs within the estimated amount of money. The contractor was supposed to arrive last Wednesday and couldn't make it do to a case of the flu. The appointment was rescheduled for today. Say a prayer that work will begin soon and that all goes smoothly. We are ready to go back home. :)

  1. Wow! I figured that you were getting close to being finished. They don't get in a hurry when they are having to write a check. Hopefully it won't be long.

  2. I have always lived by the notion that everything takes twice as long as planned and costs twice as much as estimated. I am seldom proven wrong.

I know you must be really tired of this, Jana. I do hope it moves along quickly from here. Love, Helen

  3. Gene - thanks for dropping by. Please keep us in your prayers.

Helen - you are SO right. The contractor came today and told us it would cost much more than the initial offer from the insurance. AND, it feels like it is taking four or five times longer to get it done. Say a prayer, light a candle,...:)

  7. I definitely agree that things usually take twice as long as planned. How true we've found this to be when it comes to planting and growing a church. I pray your ordeal will be over soon.
