I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live by the light that I have. I must stand with anybody that stands right, stand with him while he is right, and part with him when he goes wrong.- Abraham Lincoln.
How does this quote inspire you?
Uh-oh, don't get me started on that one. LOL
ReplyDeleteBro. Pryor, why do you think I left my opinion out? LOL It is a great quote that can take so many angles of opinion.
ReplyDeleteHelen, thanks again for dropping by. I, like you, had to read this one again. I deliberately left my opinion out because I wanted others to offer their thoughts without prejudice to my opinion. The first part of the quote rings very true to me. However, I have always been the person who will agree to disagree and I could never imagine walking away from someone I love because we don't share the exact thoughts on everything. Of course there are limits to what a person will accept. If someone I loved chose the path of a child molester, refused to seek pyschiatric help, and became a repeat offender, then I might consider withdrawing from that person. For simple personal opinions regarding issues, never would I withdraw friendship.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your opinion. I always enjoy reading comments you leave on mine and others blogs.
Jana, I agree that the first part of the quote rings true, but the second part...
ReplyDeleteIt was this kind of thinking that brought about a war where all of the casualties were Americans, whatever label they may wear...
This does not inspire me, we need to stand by our friends family and even our peers, through ALL the bad like we do with the good, non of would be wehre we are in our walk with GOD if He gave up on us when we make a mistake, I thank GOD for his mercy and for all my friends that love me with all my imperfection's, thank you Sista A for this makes you think.
ReplyDeleteLove you, Cheri
I wrote the wrong thing earlier, this blog Does inspire me, to do better in my walk with GOD and to let others feel the love and know that i am there through it all, Cheri
ReplyDeleteMark - you are so right. When I first read this quote, I loved the first part but I was somewhat torn about the last part. I guess there could be extreme circumstances that would cause me to part ways with someone, but not over differences. We don't need another civil war in our country nor in our churches. The quote could be taken in so many different ways that it can make it difficult to decipher.
ReplyDeleteCheri - I actually think you were right both times. The last part of that quote does not inspire me at all, but the first part of the quote is really good. The Bible says there is wisdom in the multitude of counsel. It also says it is good for brethren to dwell together in unity. Just because we have differences of opinion, we should not forsake our brother. We should show love to all and extend tender mercy to the fallen. I love you, Cheri. Thanks for your comments.
