When someone does something good, applaud! You will make two people happy.
- Samuel Goldwyn
Let me first say to my blogging friends, you are the exceptional person to be kind and complimentary but, there are some people who are quick to be critical and never give a compliment even if they did enjoy or like something. Typically, those people are not happy people. Speaking a kind word to someone, applauding something good or great efforts, will not only make that person feel better but you, in turn, will feel happy.

Hi Jana, I think you are right about this. I think not only are these people not very happy, but that we find ourselves unhappy when we become critical (even if it is only upon occasion.) Oh, there is a place for constructive criticism, yes. But constructive criticism can sit side by side with applause, because it's purpose is the same: To uplift both people. Yea, Jana!!! You uplift and deserve to be uplifted. Thank you for your great kindness and friendship to me. Love, Helen
ReplyDeleteI like that quote. It always feels good to me to give and receive sincere compliments.
ReplyDeleteHa, you know those people too? LOL But thankfully I know more kind, encouraging people than critical.
ReplyDeleteHelen - I liked your comment about constructive criticism. I do vocal coaching (much different from teaching voice) and much of it is constructive criticism. I would not be the singer I am today if my mother had not been a critic. I also know that she thinks I am a great singer. Constructive criticism "can sit side by side with applause..." Likewise, I appreciate your friendship and value your generous heart towards others.
ReplyDeleteCarol - I agree. It feels good to give and also receive.
Sis Allard,
ReplyDeleteI'm giving you a BIG applaud (not just a lone clap but more of a congregation loud one). I love you and Bro Allard very much! If only you 2 would move out here for me! :)
Mark - unfortunately we do know some, but the good always outweighs the bad. LOL
ReplyDeleteCarissa - well, it sounds like a nice idea, but I don't think we can move. I will keep you in my prayers. Thanks for your kind remarks. Muah!
Unfortunately too many people are wrapped up in self or are too inferior to applaud. I have found that applauding makes not only me and the one being applauded feel good but also brings excitement to most who can hear.....applause!
ReplyDeleteTracie - and applause can be contagious. Thanks for dropping by.
ReplyDeleteSO TRUE!!!! It seems like some people can't help but look for something negative because they thrive on unhappiness. They are unhappy. Thankfully we serve a God who is our joy. :) I agree with Carol... it feels good to give and receive sincere compliments.
ReplyDeleteSis Allard:
ReplyDeleteI have spent a lot of time sitting and talking with young people and some not so young. Who were raised without a good comment. Never an a well done. They have such a problem in life, always trying to do something to please yet it never seems to come and they try harder, and harder. My heart goes out to them.

How true your post. Words do label us, and unless we can demonstrate kindness through the use of them, we are the most miserable of characters. I applaud you. Love ya.
ReplyDeleteRochelle - yes, He is our joy.
ReplyDeleteMervi - you have a brought up a good point. Brian and I have worked with people who never had any positive reinforcement and they are such miserable people just trying to please and seemingly never achieves. There are some in which we have made progress in boosting their self-confidence and it feels good to know we have helped in their well-being. How sad for a child to grow up and never hear applauding words.
Karen - thank you. I love you, too.
Compliments DO feel good. I like to receive them so why not give them as well. Applauding is just another way of giving a compliment to someone. It lifts up their spirit.
ReplyDeleteYou have lifted my spirit through your sincere singing many times as pastor has done through his preaching of the Word. So I Applaud you both.
Jolene - thank you. I applaud you for your perseverance and many other things I'll tell you later. :)
ReplyDeleteJana, I applaud you because you are such a great example for women to follow. You'll never know just how much you have shaped my life. I am thankful that we are friends.
ReplyDeleteSo true! It is always good to applaud. We can always find something good to say to or about someone. I'm glad I know more of the kind and encouraging people than the other ones too. :)
ReplyDeleteDebbie - Me? Shape your life? What? With too many lunches or too much Starbucks?!?! LOL I love you!
ReplyDeleteRonda - birds of a feather flock together......guess that's why we blog together.
Heartfelt compliments, received or given, go a long way. It takes two hands to clap, that's the "whole" thing :)
ReplyDeleteCatherine - I agree and thanks for your comment.
