Power In Prayer
Every Monday evening, our church has prayer from 7:00 - 8:00 PM. Last week, my brother-in-law, Mike, was praying in the seat next to me and I heard him ask the Lord, "Help us, God, to leave our petty things outside." Just a few moments later, Pastor addressed those in attendance and said, "The church doors are open for those who need salvation and we need to leave our petty things outside." (I may not have their comments verbatim, but this is my close interpretation.) It struck me at how God speaks to us in matters great and small. During this same prayer meeting, Mike felt God told him something great was going to happen at the next prayer meeting. During praise and worship in the following Wednesday night service, Mike shared this with the congregation. Last night, when everyone arrived at prayer meeting, there was a feeling of expectancy in the air and anticipation for what God was going to do. As most of you know, prayer meeting is the least attended "service." Last night there was about 100 people there and the power of prayer was strongly in the house. (I feel sorry for the ones who have not learned the value of attending prayer meeting and they are short-changing themselves.) Well, back to the story. There were four men, a young boy, and a young girl who experienced the power of the Holy Spirit as spoke of in Acts chapter two. Something great did happen. Thank you, Jesus.

That is so awesome! Prayer is very powerful...thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great report! That is just awesome. I love how God works! :)
ReplyDelete"Something" always happens, Jana. Sometimes we just don't know what it is. And it isn't our knowing that matters, it is the person to whom it happens. Sometimes a seed is planned so deep that it doesn't blossom for years. But "something" happened just the same, and when it does blossom, sing Hallelujah!
ReplyDeleteJen - it was a special night
ReplyDeleteRonda - It was awesome. I just wish we could get the whole church to show up for one prayer meeting. They would find out what they have been missing.
Helen - You are right. "Something" always happens when one is in the presence of the Almighty. I believe all prayers are "heard" whether silently spoken or shouted from the roof. I was especially excited for one of the men named Jesse. He has had much strife lately including his mother being hospitalized with a bleed in her brain. Jesse was upset because his sister died from an aneurysm. His mother is recovering and he received a strong touch from the Lord during prayer. To see him so happy it thrilled me.
I love to hear reports about the power of prayer. Prayer moves mountains, calms seas, and saves souls. Wonderful report. May God Bless the Delano church with a multitude of souls.
ReplyDeleteKaren - I'm glad you and I KNOW what prayer can do. It's amazing! I will never understand why so many saints will ask for prayer when in need, but avoid prayer meeting like the plague! Communication with God is such an honor to just have Him lend His ear.
ReplyDeleteIt was an awesome prayer meeting. Isn't it wonderful to know that God always keeps His promises? He said something great was going to happen and it did. Thank you Jesus!
ReplyDeleteI was extremely proud of your favorite brother-in-law and my husband (one and the same). Mike listened to the voice of the Lord, spoke the promise to the church, and claimed the victory. As the old song says "The Lord Came Through" - SIX new souls were added to the kingdom.
ReplyDeleteYour sis - Paula Ott
Jolene - yes, God did something great, but the spirit of unity I felt was as exciting as the new ones being born. When we get in one mind and one accord, great things will happen and souls will be added to the kingdom.
ReplyDeletePaula - well it took forever to get you to comment. Now, you need to go to www.blogger.com and set up your own blog. You would be a great addition to this world of blogging. I love you!
AWESOME!!! Prayermeetings may have ceased to exist in some "churches" but a church birthed in prayer will only survive in prayer.
ReplyDeleteMark - you said it best. "Awesome!"
ReplyDeletePrayer meetings in my estimation, set the stage for all our other services. We are not able to have prayer meetings on a regular basis in our present building(we're renting from another church)although we have had some in our home. We are really close to be able to get into a building downtown that we won't have to share with anybody, and I am looking forward to being able to have weekly prayer meetings again. Thanks for sharing your encouraging report!
ReplyDeleteCarol - I will pray that you will soon be in your own building. It is difficult to rent and never have enough time available for prayer meetings, revival, and even social nights.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your prayers. We should find out on Monday if we have the go ahead to begin using the building.
