THE Brace

The brace (pictured above) is the contraption I am wearing for two months. I had an injury to my foot before Christmas last year and I thought it would get better but, it did not. I went to the doctor in March and it has taken until now to get the referrals and correct doctors, thanks to having and HMO. The orthopaedic surgeon I saw here, Dr. Amirpour, wanted me sent to a "teaching" school where I could see a doctor that specializes in foot/ankle problems. Dr. Soohoo from UCLA is who I was then referred to and he optimistically hopes the problem will heal itself while wearing the brace. I have a tendon that is at the point of rupturing and it is causing my foot to "fall off" my ankle. I have had six doctors tell me this is a very complicated problem and one that is not easily resolved. When I was casted to form a mold for the brace, the doctor handed me a sheet and said, "Pick a color." It had every color under the sun and several prints. I decided I may as well put some fun into this miserable situation and I chose "Zulu."

Also, say a prayer for Brian. He will see an orthopaedic surgeon tomorrow to determine what do to do for his shoulder. The shoulder was injured in the wreck in January but it continues to cause him great discomfort. Brian hopes he will not need surgery.

  1. Pretty brace. Isn't it amazing how far we have come from black and white contraptions. Praying all goes well for you and Bro. Allard. Sometimes it feels like instead of a shower we get a down pour of problems in this ole'body. See you at Camp Meeting.....

  2. I had the same issue on my left middle finger last year. The tip of my finger fell as a result. I wore a brace for 6 wks. Now the finger doesn't fall but rather is slanted upwards on the tip! Atleast no more pain and I do have use of the finger again. I hope your ordeal is a success.

  3. Will we be seeing color-coordination to your outfits for Camp Meeting? (wink) Seriously, I pray that the brace is the answer - and will also hold Brian in prayer. Look forward to seeing you and family soon. Weather here is wonderful as always.
