Teacher of the Year

Not long ago I posted a blog about Influential People and spoke about one of my Sunday School teachers who taught me when I was just two years old. It is with great pride that I make this announcement - - - Sis. Jane Johnson received an official letter from the United Pentecostal Church, International stating she had been nominated and won the title North America Teacher of the Year of the Western District. Soon she will receive a special award presented by our district Christian Education director. I always knew she was the best, and now it is official. Sis. Jane is a hero to me and I love her dearly!

P.S. The picture is of Sis. Jane holding my baby girl, Bryn-Anika. Now five years old, Bryn is a student in Sis. Jane's class.

  1. Wow, what an honor! Sunday school teachers are in indeed very special. If it wasn't for my sunday school teachers taking time to pick me up for church, my life would be a whole lot different. I have many fond memories of my sunday school teachers. I believe they will where a special crown in Heaven!

  2. Helen - I'm glad you dropped by. Every now and then, it's fun to recall fond memories of our early beginnings. Sis. Jane not only taught several scriptures and songs through repetition, but she also instructed the children to have proper manners. i.e., how to sit, saying please, thank you, & excuse me, praying before meals, respect for others... If the snack was Vanilla Wafers, she taught never put the whole cookie in your mouth but take small bites. She loved God's creation and always brought something to share. Maybe flowers, a lizard, nature pictures, and so on. She was my teacher from ages 2-3 and has definitely been a huge influence in my life. In fact, I am still learning from her.

  3. Mark & Debbie - I am so happy to honor Sis. Jane. Debbie, your life story reminds me of Berni Cupoli's life. Sunday School was what brought her to the Lord and she is a strong believer in Sunday School. Yes, Sunday School teachers should have a lot of stars in their crowns.

  4. How wonderful that she has been honored in such a wonderful way!! More S.S. teachers should be honored in this way, don't you think??? It is one of the most rewarding ministries a person can have. Thank you for sharing this with us, Jana! God Bless!!

  5. Thanks, Ronda and Jewel, for dropping by my blog. I think teachers should be in the category of "worthy of double honor."
