You're My Brother, You're My Sister

My blog yesterday caused me to think of how we consider people around the world to be our "brothers" and "sisters" in Christ. Of course, I immediately thought of my family. The two boys in my house, ages 10 and 20, have such a love/hate relationship. They are typical boys who either love each other dearly, or fight like cats and dogs. Yet, in the midst of a most heated argument, if my youngest were to run out in the street in front of oncoming traffic, my oldest son would risk his life to save his little brother from harm. Likewise, if my oldest son were to fall and break his leg, my youngest son couldn't run fast enough to call for help. Why? Their brotherhood is stronger than their disagreement. Why would I want to forsake my brother because we disagree on an issue? My philosophy has always been "agree to disagree." Conflict and differences of opinion can be good. It causes one to consider the matter more deeply and can increase knowledge. If one is open minded and does not allow stubbornness to control them, their horizons have the potential to broaden. Unity is powerful, but rarely does it come with unanimous consensus. As for me, rest assured I believe in the brotherhood and sisterhood. You are valuable to me.
P.S. The snapshot is some of my "sisters" who I work with on our district ladies committee. They probably won't agree with me posting this picture, but I think they will still love me. :)

  1. Ronda - I figured something didn't go right when you posted and I received two comments. I decided to just post both of them. You know, another nice thing about the brotherhood and sisterhood is, even if we don't see each other for years, we always seem to pick up right where we left off. I believe that even if I haven't seen some of my "brothers" and "sisters" in years, they would be there for me in time of need. I'm so glad I'm a part of the family of God.

  2. Sister A, i agree, Sisters and Brothers alike are very important, there are many times that the family of God are there for you more than your biological family, I know this from experience, I am glad that when you have true friends you dont have to see or talk to them every day to know that they are there for you in every way, I love you Sis Allard, thank you for being my friend, and know that you are special to me, love you, Cheri

  3. Wonderful post, Jana! I love people who love you "no matter what"! Just because I may not agree with you or you with me doesn't mean we can't get along, and "agree to disagree" on some things, yet remain friends/family.
