The Greatest Gift

We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.- Norman MacFinan

During this season of gift giving, let generosity flow from your spirit. Material gifts are nice, but nothing is greater than giving love, forgiveness, kind words, smiles, and this list could continue. My husband recently preached a sermon titled, "The Greatest Gift You Can Give Your Family." He spoke of many wonderful things we can give, but the greatest is forgiveness. It was a beautiful sermon. Sometimes our lives are so busy and involved with other people that our family takes the second shelf. Let your family know they are important - love them, laugh with them, and most of all, forgive them.

  1. Hi Jana, Your husband is right. Forgiveness is so needed in most of our relationships and families. Offering forgiveness quickly and often, sometimes even when the forgiven do not know, can keep little things from becoming too big to forgive. Forgiveness can save marriages, families, friendships. Forgiveness allows others to be human without being punished for it. Why forgiveness is saving my soul, even now. Tell Brian I said, thank you.

  2. Helen - Scripture also tells us we must forgive to be forgiven. It is the little foxes that destroy so we must be quick to forgive those little things to avoid any chance of developing bitterness. Bitterness only kills the one who possesses it. As you stated, it is important to give forgiveness even when the forgiven do not know. WOW, Helen! If everyone could just learn that small task, we could have peace on earth. Thanks for further provoking my mind.

  5. Hello Sis Allard,

Powerful message - still talking to me - will for the rest of my life. That's how it's suppose to work.
You know the saying "charity starts at home" - well, forgiveness starts at home.
    Love you.

  6. Forgiveness is something I have to ask for from time to time in my house and must give out too. Though it may be hard at times to ask for or to give out forgiveness, I found it is definitely something that liberates our spirits. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas.

    Love,
    Carol
