Morro Bay

The Bakersfield Californian posted a multi-media slide show of my favorite coastal town. Morro Bay is located on the Central Coast of California and is a quite fishing village. When I was just a young girl, my family would vacation at Morro Bay State Park each summer. My mom would fry fish, make fish gravy, and all the trimmings. Riding bikes, exploring the nearby golf course, and roasting marshmallows was my entertainment. The weather was always perfect and, if I sit back and close my eyes for a minute, I can almost smell the Eucalyptus trees. When in Morro Bay, the Galley Seafood Grill and Bar is my favorite place to eat Halibut steak while watching the sunset on the bay. We would always reserve a window table and would usually spot a sea otter or two swimming in the bay. There was also the nose-diving Pelicans. The restaurant was closed for a couple years during an extensive remodeling. It re-opened in February 2008 and now features the attached Anderson Inn with rooms looking over the harbor. I haven't had the chance to visit since the remodel and when I saw the pictures at the link below, I felt a tug to get away for a couple nights. Think I better start saving all my pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters.

  2. Mark - wouldn't we have fun?!?!? Debbie and I could run up and down the Embarcadero while you and Brian drank coffee. LOL The Anderson Inn sounds really nice but I think I will have to save alot of pennies to go there. LOL

  3. Sometimes I forgot what a beautiful part of the world I live in. It is sad but after awhile we don't appreciate it as we should, we take it for granted. I love the area from Los Osos through Cambria. Oh it's just that I like the ocean and its coastal beauty anywhere it is. We have to go to San Francisco in the morning. If we have time, I think we'll travel Highway One again - love the views.

  4. I remember trips to Morro Bay when I was growing up! We camped and had a great time with all the extended "Hopper " family. Of course we always got involved with fishing then in the evening we would play checkers by the camp fire! Memories..

  5. Kerrie, Kellie, and I are taking Caleb to the coast. We are going to pass through this area as well. Oh I can't wait. It is going to be so much fun to just get away from it all with my girls and grandson and to enjoy such beauty created by God.

  7. Karen - sometimes I envy people who live on the central coast of Calif. Even though I have traveled all over the world, there is nothing like coming back to the central coast of Calif. Add a lunch at Splash, dinner at Madonna Inn, A.J. Spurs, The Galley, and more makes it even more fun. I love fish!

Kevin - you were probably at the State Park, too. Or there was another camp ground close to the beach but we never stayed there. I love Morro Bay. It brings back so many memories.

Jolene - Awwww.....I know you will have so much fun.

Helen - The ocean is my favorite nature spot. If I could, I would retire and move near Karen. She is in a lovely place, too.

  8. Jana, I think the ocean is beautiful. I love to wade in the water, look at the sunset and collect shells. I love to visit the beach. But after a while, I've had enough sand in the shower, the bed, and my underpants to last a long time. I'd rather retire to the mountains.
