Tents, Trailers, And Big RV's

I find it interesting to look at the various RV's at camp because it speaks of the diversity of the crowd. From $59 tents to million dollar rigs, everyone enjoys each other's company and no prejudice is felt. Personally, I think this is a reason camp is so enjoyable. Everyone is just happy to be there, regardless of their or their neighbors accommodations. Have you ever been to a place such as this and think about how wonderful it is to have people "dwelling" together in harmony? What can we do to bring this feeling into our everyday life?
Here's some pics for you to enjoy.

  1. Jana, it looks like a lot of fun! I've heard how wonderful Camp Meeting was this year. It's wonderful when we all get together to have good fellowship. Thank you for sharing the pictures.

  2. Linda - you are just going to have to take time next year to join us in the cool, coastal weather for camp meeting. It really was a great camp.

  3. I do enjoy campmeeting. Psalm 133:1 says, "Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity." Financial and social status doesn't matter when we are united for the cause of Christ.

  4. The first time I visited Western District Campmeeting, I was shocked by all the tents!!!! Being from Texas, there is NO WAY anyone would stay in a tent....it is just too hot! Glad your meeting was so good. It is great to see all the old friends and to have good services together.

  5. Yes Jana.
The Santa Maria fair ground is never the same for a time. When all of God’s children get together, and if my memory is right, “when the rich and poor get together, get together with the Lord.” The wide range of people that come together with the Lord and those of “like precious faith,” rejoice with the blessings of the Lord.

  6. Carol - it is so pleasant.

Gene - Not only do they stay in tents, they bring portable heaters, eskimo sleeping bags and blankets. The weather is half the reason we all attend Camp Meeting. We leave the hot central valley and enjoy the nice, cool, coastal air. Oops, maybe I wasn't supposed to admit that. :)

  7. Mervi - thanks for dropping by. I think you had the key ingredient to this topic - when we "get together with the Lord." It is so wonderful.

  10. Mark - LOL but of course, Johnny Nelson. I bet his next one will be the one that a small Mercedes fits into the belly.

  11. I think "secular life" used to be like this in small towns as far as housing was concerned. You still see single-wide mobile homes just down the road from large near mansions in those plcaes where the "location location location" folks didn't invent zoning to keep out the "riff-raff." And no, I don't want a McDonald's in my back yard. LOL But I don't know if the social life reflected any unity. I don't think it did. I've been thinking about this for days but haven't come to any conclusion. Glad you had such a good time at Camp Meeting.

  12. Helen - I knew you had been thinking about this and I, like you, haven't come up with any conclusions. The only thing that seems to play a part in this "harmony" at camp, is most people are taking vacation to be there. When people take vacation, they already have their mind programmed to be "happy." Vacation means,
    1. a period of suspension of work, study, or other activity, usually used for rest, recreation, or travel; recess or holiday:
    2. a part of the year, regularly set aside, when normal activities of law courts, legislatures, etc., are suspended.
    3. freedom or release from duty, business, or activity.

I believe this "vacation" mentality causes the people to arrive in a free-from-work mindset of "we are gonna have fun." Therefore, they are happy with their accommodations and everyone dwells in harmony for those few days. Of course, I realize it is hard to compare a church group to the secular world because church people are supposed to love their neighbor. (Although you and I know there are many Pharisees amongst us.)

During the Christmas season, Brian and I sing a song that says, "How I wish Christmas would never end, the joy in the air and the love that we share, as we gather with family and friends, when the snow melts away and decorations come down, I hope the spirit we share, will still be around, how I wish Christmas would never end." After leaving camp, I had that same feeling - I wish the spirit of camp would never end.
