R.I.P. Gunther 02.20.09

Gunther, named after the renowned animal trainer Gunther Gebel, is a beautiful shepherd who was from a bloodline of working K-9's. Today, the vet said if it was his dog, he would let him sleep. Gunther was struggling to get up and down because of hip dysplasia, could barely walk because of a tumor on his front paw, had severe skin allergies, an entire body yeast infection, and was deaf. Whenever he shook his head, you could hear fluid swishing. He was nearly 13 years old and Bryce's best friend. Bryce held him until he took his last breath. We have all cried.

  3. Helen - thanks for your prayers.

Lorraine - It broke my heart to lose Gunther but it was worse watching Bryce hold the dog on the vet floor and cry. Are you on Facebook? I posted a couple pics on FB that were taken at the vet's office. I wouldn't post them to my blog because the audience is so much larger and I didn't want Bryce to feel worse.

  4. Oh Sister Allard, I am so sorry for all of you. I am very attached to my dog and so I can only imagine what that must be like. I know I will have to endure it someday. Tell Bryce I'm praying. That is so sad. =(

  6. I'm sorry to hear about Gunther. I really didn't understand how people could get attached to a pet until we got our dog 6 years ago. They really do become part of the family. I pray God's comfort for Bryce and your family.

  7. Putting a loved pet out of their pain and misery is bitter sweet. The sweet is that we know the pet will no longer be in its misery. The bitter is the vacant spot that is in both our heart and life.
Sorry to hear of the end of a relationship.
