As A Man Thinketh

The greatest discovery of my generation
is that man can alter his life simply by altering his attitude of mind.
- William James
This quote makes me think of some old phrases such as:
Can't never did do anything.
Is the glass half full or half empty?
I can, I can, I think I can...

  1. I know this is long for a comment but I thought you may enjoy...

For more than one hundred years, runners tried to break the four-minute mile. It was considered the "Holy Grail" of track and field. Many said it couldn't be done. In fact, doctors wrote articles in medical journals explaining why it was physically impossible for the human body to run a mile in less than four minutes.

However, in May 1954, a British medical student named Roger Bannister ran the mile in 3:59.4. His amazing accomplishment made headlines around the world. Yet what happened afterward is even more amazing. The four-minute mile was broken again the next month...and then again...and again. It has since been broken more than 700 times, sometimes by several people in the same race.
What happened? They weren't training any differently, but for the first time they believed they could do it. The barriers to the mind had come down. The fences to breaking the barrier of 4 minutes were in the minds of the runners.

All to often we have fences constructed in our minds. Have a wonderful Sunday!

  2. Tracie - thanks for the great story. Our finite minds cannot fathom with God ALL things are possible.

  3. Yes, Mervi is a believer in the power of positive thought. The older I get the more I sit and ponder the words of the leader of the positive thought movement, Dr. Norman Vincent Peal, “What he mind of can conceive man can achieve.” Man dreamed of walking on the moon, and accomplished it. Man dreamed of breaking the sound barer and did so. Mr. Gates dreamed of the home personal computer and here I sit.
Now for the negative side, the power of positive thought makes me to be a little troubled over the story related to us in the Book of the Beginnings. Man dreamed of a tower and only the intervention of Jehovah brought it to an end.

    Just my thought:
