Kern County Science Fair 2007

We have had an adventurous day at the 20th Annual Kern County Science Fair. Blake's project won in the regionals and moved on to county. (I have a previous blog about his project.) Since Blake is only in 4th grade, he can not go any higher in the competition. Hopefully, he will make it to county next year and if he wins, he will then be allowed to the state level. Before judging began this morning, Dr. George Ka'iliwai, III spoke. He is a technical advisor for Air Force Flight Test Center at Edwards Air Force Base in California. He had a great power-point presentation and two short videos of different aircraft he has worked on and clips of their maneuvers. The presentation was exciting and generated enthusiasm in the students to excel. Students were given an opportunity to ask questions and greet Dr. Ka'lilwai. Blake even got to take a snapshot with Dr. Ka'lilwai. It was a great educational day.

  2. Thank you, Ronda. Blake just got his report card and he has a 3.8 gpa. He is such a brilliant child. If he falls short on any grade, it is because he got bored and just wrote any answer to complete the assignment. He is really something else!

  4. Ooh. I wish my son could have been there. He loves airplanes and wants to be a pilot. Last Saturday, him and my husband went to Hiller Aviation Museum in San Carlos. They have a program there called Young Eagles in which experienced pilots take children between the ages of 8-17 for a 15-20 minute flight in one of their planes. This is done only on the third Saturday of every month. Unfortunately, my son got sick on the way up there and wasn't able to fly, but he did recover enough to tour the museum. We may try going back next month.

  5. Oh, wow! That sounds so neat, Carol! I'm sure your son would have loved to talk with Dr. Ka'iliwai. Too bad your son didn't feel well enough to fly. Hopefully, he will get to next month.
