That's something I wonder about...if we pray for patience, will a trial automatically come into our lives? And is it different if you are already in the middle of a trial and pray for patience to get through it all? Your post has me wondering again.
Jennifer - No, I do not believe that if you pray for patience a trial will automatically come into your life. If you are in the middle of a trial and pray for patience, I think that is a sign of maturity recognizing you need the patience (or perserverance or endurance) to remain standing through the trial. We don't get tribulation by praying for patience but rather we get patience by enduring the tribulation.
Sis A, I was always told NOT to pray for patience, however, to pray for tolerance, I dont know if there is a difference, and dont know if this is a help or a hinderance, but this is something that I do not pray for, Love you
Cheri - that is a great comment. I think, however, I would choose the word endurance over tolerance when associated with trials or tribulation.
Sonia - :~)
Helen - Girl, I think you are better than me!!! LOL
Karen - Now I think you have the best response. Why even ask for it when there is so much in life that forces us to obtain it?!?! Thanks for the comment.
Born in 1960, you can say she's a boomer. She's married to the love of her life, Brian, who is also her pastor, mom to three gorgeous kids, and wears many different "hats." Her personal passion is singing and she recorded her first CD which was released February 2007. You can hear clips at her website, www.janaallard.com.
I think patience is God's gift to His obedient child.

ReplyDeleteHelen - so how obedient must we be? This is all thought provoking.
ReplyDeleteJennifer - you have added further fuel to fire my brain into deeper thought. I need to think about this some more before I give a response.

ReplyDeleteI think Patience is the virtue that takes patience...
ReplyDeletedoes that make sense? lol
Carissa - no, it doesn't make any sense. J/K LOL Yes, I understand what you are trying to say. It does not time to build patience into character.

ReplyDeleteI don't think we should pray for patience....just to be a genious.
ReplyDeleteAbout 73% obedient, Jana. LOL
ReplyDeleteOh, I have never prayed for patience. Life circumstances seem to help me develop patience without any need for me to ask for it.
