How Far Should the News Go?

EDIT 10:40 AM Sat.: I just realized this child was in the care of a foster parent (Kerrie, the daughter of fellow blogger Jolene, was the foster parent) in our church and the courts ruled the parent stable enough to return the child. This is so devastating to Jolene and her family. Please pray for all involved.

Today has been nauseating ever since I read the Bakersfield Californian report about a four year old boy whose father bit his eyes out. The child, 4-year-old Angelo Mendoza Jr., told police, "My daddy ate my eyes." Happy Birthday, Bryce

It was only 23 years ago today, that my first-born entered the world. In my mind's eyes, I can still see him swaddled in the hospital blanket with his tiny toes peeking out and his daddy holding him proudly. Where has the time gone? Is my baby really this handsome man? I certainly don't know why the time has flown by but I do realize this handsome man really is my baby. And, my baby he will always be! Just before he sang on Sunday morning, he was standing on the platform and I just couldn't resist - - - I slid off the organ bench, stepped over to him, and put my arms around him and held him tight. If only those moments could last forever. Just in case Bryce reads this post, I want him to know...
My heart swells with pride when I see him love his little sister, take time to teach his little brother new games, rushes to assist the elderly, and I hear him speak politely with manners. I am proud of his upcoming graduation from university in June and I am proud of his bridal show modeling. Even more, my heart is touched when he sings praises to God and when he allows God to use him through prophetic ministry. There have been many times I felt God speak to me through the ministry of Bryce. There is so much life ahead and I wish him the best of everything.

My Mother's Day

They are growing up too fast.
Sometimes they are so silly.

Today was a beautiful, sun-shining, California day with temperatures reaching the mid 80's and it was also a day full of love and laughter. The morning began with my kids giving me cards. I even got a card from our doggy saying, "I ruv roo!" They were all funny. Let me share the laughs.

Bryn's card: (A picture of a cute, naked baby on the front) "We're all born into this world naked..........It's God's way of telling us to go shopping."

Blake's card: (A picture of a mom cooking and the mom emphatically talking) "Well, I don't care if you think peas are gross. You'll EAT them and you'll LIKE them..........Mom, thank you for your gentle encouragement through the years."

Bryce's card: (A picture of a toddler sitting on the potty) "Hey, Mom! Thanks for teaching me so many wonderful things over the years..........Especially that potty training thing. I can't tell you how many times that has come in handy."

Then, I was supposed to go to church and be serious. LOL The service was beautiful and all the mothers were honored. Following the service, my husband took me to my favorite Italian restaurant. We had a great lunch celebrating Mother's Day and also Bryce's birthday. Being a mommy is the best job God ever gave me.

Eagle's Summit Re-visited

Time is flying too fast for me! I am struggling to keep my blog updated. Last weekend (Thurs.-Sat), Bryce sang at Eagle's Summit in Merced. Blake, Bryn and I were able to attend the Friday evening service and the Saturday concert in the park. This conference is not for the faint hearted Christian. The ministry is deep and intense. Scripture tells us there are pastors, teachers, evangelists, prophets, and, yet, many have a hard time accepting "prophets." I will admit, I have had times I was skeptical, but I am convinced God still has and uses prophets today. The speakers for this conference were Prophet John Arcovio, Pastor Nathan Hurst, Pastor Sam Emory, and Prophet Dr. Gerald Jeffers. During the Friday evening service, Dr. Jeffers spoke about "Friend or Foe." He took us to the scriptures where Jesus called Judas "friend." Then, he backed up to the scriptures where Jesus had told his disciples how he would taken away and Peter response was he would not allow anyone to hurt Jesus and Jesus said to Peter, "Get thee behind me Satan." His point was Judas was a friend because he helped fulfill the will of God. It was God's will for Jesus to go to the cross for our redemption. When Peter didn't want any harm to come to Jesus, he was being a loving and concerned friend but he was trying to circumvent the will of God. There is so much more to the message I would suggest you visit www.upcmerced.org and find the message in their archived videos. Following the service, we were gathered in the reception hall and my husband wanted to introduce me to Dr. Jeffers. When the introduction was made, Dr. Jeffers asked if I would sit in the chair across from him. He began to speak prophetically to me and I couldn't stop the tears. He spoke about things he could never possibly know without hearing from God. I am convinced there are modern day prophets.

The finale was the concert in the park along with a barbecue. Merced choir was in fine style as always, Bryce made me proud, and a group from Santa Ana sang their hearts out. It was a great weekend and Eagle's Summit is a conference I would highly recommend to anyone who desires a deeper, closer, and very intimate relationship with God.

Just got in from Eagles Summit Conference. It was an incredible conference! Pictures, thoughts, and video links coming soon. There is one thing of which I am thoroughly convinced - Dr. Jeffers is a real prophet. No one can convince me otherwise.

Brag Moment

Once again, I am bragging on my little princess Bryn. She is part of the UPCI Ladies Ministries national promotional video. Bryn represents foreign missionaries, "...and that's a really good thing."

EDIT: This promotional video was created by Anita Harding who is the promotional director for my district (Central and Northern California and Northern Nevada). Our national ladies president loved Anita's work and wanted to use her for the national promotions. I am very proud to work with Anita.

Eagle's Summit

This week we will attend Eagle's Summit Conference in Merced, California. According to Brian and Bryce, Eagle's Summit is the most spiritual conference they have ever attended and they are anxious to attend again this year.

No Offense, But This Is How I Feel

Miss California has been cussed at and ridiculed for honestly and kindly answering a question about same-sex marriage. Judge Perez Hilton called her a dumb $&#!%, half-brained, and more. He further stated, "If she would have won I would have gone on stage and snatched that tiara off her head." Miss California Carrie Prejean answered a question from judge Perez Hilton, unseen, about legalizing same-sex marriage during the Miss USA Pageant, Sunday April 19, 2009 in Las Vegas. "We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage," Prejean said. "And you know what, I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised."

Miss California kept her answer personal saying more than once, "I think," and was later cussed at in a vicious video response by Perez Hilton. In his tirade Perez stated she should have said each state should make their own decision. In other words, say what I want to hear and not what you believe. NO WAY!!! That would make Miss California hypocritical. I much prefer the woman who stood fearless and spoke her convictions.

Understand, I am not a gay hater but I do believe I am entitled to my opinion. Not once, but TWICE, the majority of California has voted against allowing same-sex marriage and the people have been challenged both times by this minority group. I was one of the majority who voted "YES" on 8. There are gay people who I dearly love but I do not agree they should be allowed to marry. I treat these people with kindness and respect yet, the Perez Hiltons lash out with vile hatred towards anyone who disagrees with him. If gay people want their opinion to be respected, they first should learn to respect the opinion of others even if they don't like it.

PEREZ, THE PEOPLE HAVE VOTED NOW LISTEN TO THEM.

YOUR HATEFUL RHETORIC APPALLS ME.

Thank You, Jesus, For Another Miracle

Dr. Andrea Johnson, who was born and raised in our church and is now a professor at a state university, was recently involved in a serious accident. Her car was broadsided by a van and it is nothing short of miracle that Andrea survived with just bruises. I join with her and her family in thanking God for sparing her life.

Holiness of Heart

Recently, I was talking to fellow blogger, Mark Pryor, and he made the comment, "Holiness of heart." Those words grabbed my attention and sent my mind into much thought. Scripture does state without holiness no man can see God but what aspect of our humanity needs holiness? In my opinion, holiness is necessary in every part of our life but it seems too many forget to have holiness of heart. How can one be critical of a teenager making an effort to love God and forget to give salvation to the teen drug addict? It can only happen because holiness of heart is forgotten. Preach outward holiness all you want but it will be in vain without including holiness of heart.

I am willing to remain and play the man's game if there are not enough boats for more than the women and children. Tell my wife I played the game straight out and to the end. No woman shall be left aboard this ship because Ben Guggenheim is a coward.

Get Ready

A lot of times I hear this: "as soon as I get my big break (the opening slot before a headlining artist, my record deal, the major booking agent/manager/record guy), then I'll get ready." But my advice is this: "you'll never get that big break unless you are ready!" And even in the rare circumstance where you did get a big break, if your live show isn't ready, you've just blown your opportunity.

Please say a prayer for the family of fellow bloggers, Mervi and Josh. Mervi's mother-in-law/Josh's grandmother, passed away suddenly last night. She was having difficulty breathing after church yesterday and was taken to the hospital. Before the night's end, she left to join her late husband in heaven. They were both faithful Christians and examples of godliness. She was a dear lady and will be greatly missed.

To all the family, please accept my condolences. You are all in my prayers during this difficult time of loss.

2009 Talent Show

Cassie Cabading, fifth grade student, took first place singing "The Greatest Love of All" at the annual Morningside Talent Show. I thought Cassie should have won last year and I was happy she won this year. Bryn, my seven year old second grader, sang "Smile" and I was very proud of her. The show had several instrumentalists, a small Mariachi band, several dance acts and a few other soloists. This is one public school America can be proud of. The below clips were taken from my tiny camera. Hopefully, my husband will get his videos downloaded from his great camera and I can then post a video worth seeing.

At the end of the day on Easter, Bryn had jumped and played so much she looked a mess. Knowing how cute she had looked that morning at church, my friend Viviana suggested "before and after" pictures. Fresh faced or smeared with dirt, she is still my cute princess. I love this girl!

Weekend Update

Saturday night, we went to see "The Centurion" at Truth Tabernacle in Fresno, California. The cast of over 100 did an excellent job. They did not allow any photography during the performance but you can see some pictures at this link: http://marizabe.blogspot.com/. My niece Amber attends Truth Tabernacle and she arrived early to save us center seats. Bryn and Blake were just happy to see their cousins Clayton, Brooklyn and Terri Rene.

I have to tell you this cute story. The young man who portrayed Jesus was a former national champion Bible quizzer. During the play, he quoted many portions of scripture. A young boy who is currently a junior Bible quizzer has been studying many passages that were used in the play. The little boy proudly told his mom several of the references. After awhile, the little boy became amazed at all the scriptures "Jesus" was quoting and exclaimed to his mother, "I didn't know Jesus was a Bible quizzer!" Kids! They are too cute!

Sunday morning arrived and our church was full as Bryce lead the congregation in worship which was followed by soloist Kelvin Furgerson. Then, the KIDZ Choir rocked the house. They used 14 kids to compile two lead vocal teams. Sadly, none of my pics turned out of the lead vocalists. They were just awesome! Tabitha Popoy then did dramatic sign to the song, "My Redeemer Lives." Before my husband spoke, I sang "He Forgives And Forgets." As the altars filled with people seeking a closer relationship with God, the children were outdoors hunting Easter eggs. Later in the afternoon, we all returned for a barbecue, games, and fellowship. One thing I know, the rental fee for the two bounce houses were worth every penny. The kids jumped for hours and I think they will all sleep good tonight. What a wonderful day we had celebrating the resurrection of the King.

I want to add a BIG 'thank you" to everyone who donated candy to fill the eggs and another BIG "thank you" to our Sunday School Superintendent Douglas Johnson and his wife Kandas for supplying the Easter eggs and filling them.

Have A Great Easter

The flu swept through our house this past week like a sniper on a rampage. Spring break has never been so miserable. If you live in the San Joaquin Valley, get the Lysol and spray the doorknobs, light switches, faucets, the air - - - do what you can to avoid this wicked virus. Thankfully, everyone is better and now ready for Easter. Hope you have a blessed day tomorrow as you celebrate the risen King.

The Devil Is Real

Is Satan Real? This was the topic of a recent debate on ABC News. Available link here: http://a.abcnews.com/Nightline/story?id=7170007&page=1. A doctor and Christian entertainer was staunchly opposed to believing in Satan while a former prostitute said she knew Satan first hand and had fought his forces.

It was stated, "According to one poll, 70 percent of Americans believe Satan is real. Some believe he -- and almost all believers say Satan is a "he" -- is a fallen angel. Others believe Satan is a shapeless, malevolent force; the enemy of God. But there are also many people who believe that Satan is a myth, and a dangerous one, because his name is often invoked to justify unspeakable acts of violence."

At the conclusion of the debate, Carlton Pearson stated, "Some people believe I am leading people to hell. If there really is a devil and if there really is a hell.... I guess ... I deserve to go there!" There are numerous references to Satan and demons in the Bible, but Pearson said that you can believe parts of the Bible while turning away from others.

In reality, my opinion doesn't count. What matters is God's word. Satan had his debut in the Garden of Eden and he has been "seeking whom he may devour" ever since.

A Sad Case

Below is a link to the complete article about 89 year old John Demjanjuk, a man accused of Nazi war crimes and is scheduled for deportation to Germany. He was sentenced to death in 1988 after being tried and convicted in Israel for war crimes but in 1993, the Israeli Supreme Court determined he was not the notorious Nazi death camp guard Ivan the Terrible and he was sent home to Seven Hills in suburban Cleveland. Now a frail, old man, he can't get up out of a chair on his own, walk on his own, nor get out of bed without gasping with pain. I believe there are wages to be paid for crimes committed, but how is it going to help anyone to send a feeble, weak man away from his family. In my opinion, this is a time we should extend forgiveness and let the old man die in peace. Today is one that is usually full of pranks and jokes as people take advantage of "April Fool's Day," but I want to leave the silly fun behind and offer a serious thanks to my husband; my pastor. This day, is the 15th Pastoral Anniversary for Brian as senior pastor of Apostolic Gospel Church of Delano. It was 27 years ago (February 1982), when Brian joined the staff as pastor's assistant. Brian gave unselfishly as a servant to this church. It was April 1, 1994, when Brian assumed the position of senior pastor. The path has not always been easy and there have been many challenges. Regardless, Brian has faithfully brought The Word to growing saints, tutored children struggling in school, prayed for the sick to recover, officiated many weddings, occasionally sings, given to the poor, counseled wounded hearts, established a kid-friendly office, and performed funerals of loved ones gone. In addition, he serves as a chaplain for the Kern County Sheriff, substitute teaches for the public elementary schools, and serves the Western District of the UPC in any needed capacity. Now, I am sure you are wondering when he takes time to breathe and I still need to tell you more. He is a fantastic dad to Bryce, Blake, and Bryn. Whether discussing university studies with Bryce, helping Blake with geometry, drilling Bryn in spelling or taking time to play games, he is always there for his kids. This September, Brian and I will celebrate 30 years of marriage and I feel he loves me with the same passion and spark of the first kiss. I know I am a spoiled woman and very lucky in love. Brian is my husband, best friend, confidant, and the love of my life. My bragging could continue for many pages but I must conclude with a heart felt thank you to Brian for being my pastor.

Brian, thank you for all of the things you do but most of all, thank you for being my pastor and guiding me in the ways of God. I love you more than Godiva chocolate, more than a good night's sleep, more than ice cream, more than homemade ginger sauce and chicken, more than...................anything.
